Empowering the Next Generation: GECU Announces 2025 Financial Bee Winners
We’re proud to celebrate the winners of the 2025 Financial Bee: Steps to Savings Challenge, an annual scholarship opportunity designed to provide students with essential financial knowledge that lasts a lifetime.
Now in its fifth year, the Financial Bee is a collaboration between GECU and EVERFI. The initiative challenges students in grades 8–12 to complete a series of interactive online lessons focused on core money management topics like saving, budgeting, and investing. After completing the program, students submit a short essay reflecting on what they learned and how they plan to use it in their own lives.
This year, 15 outstanding students were selected as winners, each receiving a $1,000 scholarship to support their future academic goals. One of those students was also awarded an additional $500 Visa gift card from EVERFI for their standout submission.
“Through the Financial Bee, we’re giving students the tools they need to dream bigger, plan better, and take confident steps toward their financial futures,” said Linda Nuñez, Director of Youth Community Programs at GECU Community Development.
We’d like to thank the GECU Foundation1 and El Paso Electric for their incredible support to make the Financial Bee possible. Because of their support this program continues to grow in reach and impact, with more than 3,100 students participating across Texas and New Mexico.
GECU and the GECU Foundation remain deeply committed to financial education as one significant way to achieve financial well-being.
To honor the winners, we hosted a special celebration and on-field recognition during an El Paso Chihuahuas game at Southwest University Park.
