GUARANTEED ASSET PROTECTION (GAP)

Benefits for you

  • Safe finances: Drive with peace of mind knowing that GAP may help protect the difference between your primary insurance settlement and your loan’s outstanding balance if your vehicle is deemed a total loss or stolen.
  • Drive protected: GAP may help protect your finances. Learn about what your protection plan entails and what it covers!
  • Protection for everyone: Add GAP at the dealership even when financing your auto loan with GECU. If you’re trading in a vehicle that is financed with GECU, contact us to see what protection you currently have and if you qualify for a trade-in discount.1
  • Minding the gap: GAP helps cover the gap that may exist from primary auto insurance coverage and what is currently owed on the auto loan when a total loss is declared.
  • Protection options: Not all GAP protection is the same. Different plans from different companies offer different levels of coverage. Make sure to find out the details of your plan when adding GAP to your loan at the time of purchase!

Ask the dealership what GAP services they have to offer you when shopping around for a new vehicle! You can also find out what GECU has to offer by calling toll-free at 1.800.772.4328.

We're Here to Answer Your Questions About Vehicle Protection
  • I got GAP at the dealership. Do I need to have GAP with GECU too?
No, you don’t need GAP with both us and the dealership. If you purchased GAP with the dealership, you are already covered.
  • When can I get GAP for my vehicle?
At the time of the purchase of your vehicle, the dealership will offer you GAP insurance. We also offer GAP through TruStage for loans financed at GECU.
  • Can I add these coverages on an existing auto loan?
Mechanical Repair Coverage through TruStage can be added to an auto loan that is financed at another financial institution, or on an auto that is already paid off. GAP can be added at any time to a loan that is financed at GECU.
  • What can I do if my vehicle needs repairs?
If your vehicle needs repairs, take it to an authorized repair facility in the United States of America or Canada. Ask the service advisor to contact the Administrator at the designated 800 number for pre-authorization before beginning repairs.
  • I want Mechanical Repair Coverage for my vehicle, but I am not sure if I qualify. Is there someone who I can speak with?
Yes, contact us toll-free at 1.800.772.4328.

There are three different levels of coverage available: platinum, silver and gold and three deductibles. Eligibility is vehicle specific.

GAP is not insurance; it is an optional debt cancellation product. GAP will not affect your application for credit or the terms of any credit agreement you have with us. Certain eligibility requirements, conditions and exclusions may apply. You will receive the contract before you are required to pay for GAP. You should carefully read the contract for a full explanation of the terms. If you choose GAP, adding the GAP Fee to the amount financed under your loan will increase the cost of GAP because there will be additional interest due based on the inclusion of the GAP Fee in the loan principal amount. You may cancel GAP at any time. If you cancel GAP within 90 days you will receive a full refund of any fee paid, if no benefits have been provided. Prices of the refundable and non-refundable products are likely to differ. If you purchase a refundable product, you may cancel at any time during the loan and receive a refund of the unearned fee, if no benefits have been provided. This product is administered by CUNA Mutual Insurance Agency, Inc. or a contracted third party.
